How Can Acne Caused By Puberty Be Treated?

Hello. My name is Holly, and I am 12 years old. Puberty hasn't been good to me. I have acne, and even though it's not that bad, I want to get rid of it so maybe I can have better luck at looking good for once. Just a sidenote, my skin is combination. I need something that will clear black heads and regular acne. I NEED to be able to buy it from a store, WalMart, drugstores, whatever. I have a pretty high stress level for my age, I don't get alot of sun, don't drink as much water as I should, and I'm emo apparently, so my hair is constantly in my face. Please help.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have acne caused by puberty which is because of hormonal changes in body and due to blockage of sebaceous gland under the hair follicle , when sebum get accumulated in clogged duct of sebaceous gland along with dead skin and bacteria they produce acne. You should get your hormonal levels monitored. I would suggest you to wash you face 2-3 times a day with mild soap and warm water to prevent the accumulation of oil ,dust and bacteria on your face. Apply vitamin E oil at night. . You should start with use of topical antibacterial clindamycin gel as a spot treatment for acne during day time and at night you may use a topical retinoid. If acne still persists consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may prescribe ointments containing benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid or retinoids. Sometimes doctor may also prescribe antibiotics. Avoid greasy creams ,use water based products.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
