How Can A Painful Fistula Be Treated?

Hi, my name is Miguel Amaya In April 2016 I got colon cancer and had surgery done right away didn t have any indication I had cancer. After removing my cancer, I developed an apse and they put me 3 bags to drain the infection. Well after 17 days on this bag my surgeon decided to do a wash up this is what I was told but it was a wound vac, why I was in the hospital I when to the OR over 13 time and got a fistula and until this day it s been painful and stressful. My GI doctor don t want to give me any more meds and for some reason my body only reacts to Dilaudid and Xanax. I going to a new surgeon in UIH on the 15th of these month but I m in constant pain because the fistula doesn t stop spilling. I mean once I drink or eat anything it come out and it burns like a knife constantly going in and out. Sorry to talk so much but my question is it s there any other meds I can take for pain. The bad think I been given Narco different oral meds strong once but nothing help me only the two I mention earlier and my GI doctor have given up on my. If you can help I will really appreciate or options. Until I have the surgery done at UIH I have to figure something out and I m out of ideas. Thank you for taking your time to hear me Migue Amaya

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most probably you had an enterocutaneous fistula.

Consult a gastrosurgeon and get evaluated.

If the output is high, surgical correction may be required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
