Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can A Lumpectomy Surgical Wound Be Waterproofed?
I am having a lumpectomy on the breast tomorrow. The doc said that it will be alright to travel after two days. It will be a trip to Mexico (necessary trip). I am conserned about the water when taking a shower. Do you have any advice, please? For example: should I go on an antibiotic right after the surgery to prevent an infection? Should I use antibiotics creme? Should I waterproof the area with large waterproof bandaids?
After such procedures, it is best to have sterile gauze cover for 2 days and after 2 days wound can be showered. Also, there are sticky plasters which are used for sterile wound management and each pharmacy has its own brands so I can't recommend one.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
