Pediatrician 's  Response
I am sorry to say that your niece would be unable to walk. The nerve supply to the lower limbs comes from the lower parts of the spinal cord which either not been formed due to spina bifida, or they have been damaged. As a result of this, there is no feeling (sensory) or contraction (motor) function in the lower limbs. It is not possible to reconstruct these nerves and hence under no circumstances can she walk. You will just have to accept the fact. You may visit a spine surgeon but there is very less likelihood that it would really help.
