How Can A Bacterial Infection Caused After Knee Replacement Surgery Be Treated?

I had knee replacement surgery in Oct.2016. Unfortunately I developed a serious baterial infection.I have had six surgeries and have been on large doses of antibiotics via IV until June 2017.In Jan. 2017 I underwent surgery for a bone fusion Recently my knee and the sounding area developed a foul order and my Ortho. Physician debriefed and Cleaned the wound.Blood results indicate the infection is back and IV antibacterial Infusion is necessary. In view of the amount of antibiotocs and the length of time that I was on them , is it safe for me to start on them again?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As far as my clinical experience is concerned, when there is definite positive bacterial infection, you have to undergo appropriate antibiotic therapy as per the culture sensitivity report.

So far as safety to various organ system concerned in the use of antibiotics, it is already being evaluated by the consultant before commencing of the same and also during the dosage administration, so be rest assured on that aspect.

Wish you best outcome from current situation.

Do give me further chance to assist in future.

Thank you.
