How Can Paracetamol Overdose Symptoms Be Recognized?

hi, my daughter is 7 months old,,, she has had cold for more than a month now, doctors here say she is allergic to dust and hence the cold continues,, because of the cold, she sometimes vomits what she eats. recently she got fever and we gave her paracetamol as prescribed by the doctor. She is my 2nd baby, 1st girl died when she was 5 months. i know i might be wrong, but i fear there might have been an overdose of paracetamol. what are the symptoms if indeed there was an overdose? what can i do? what will happen if there was an overdose and we fail to get immediate help?

Hello,

I'm so sorry for your loss - it causes very sad and complicated feelings and anxieties. If you think there was an overdose of paracetamol then you need to have a blood test done as soon as possible. Overdose can cause liver failure without any signs that you'd recognize.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Lisa Baker
