Hello, I have not been able to get in to see a doctor because of being between insurance providers, but I suspect that I may have some form of artery/heart disease. I do plan to get in to be seen by a doctor which should be soon as I was just approved for Medi-cal. I am 28, female, and overweight. I have never been diagnosed with anything other than GERD but I have most likely been dealing with sleep apnea for the past 4 years, as many friends and family informed me that I snore but also sound like I'm not breathing well when I sleep and often I've been waking up feeling breathless. My sister is coming to visit me this week and we want to go on the Palm Springs Tramway which would take us up the mountain. I read that people with CHD or other similar complications should avoid high altitude due to low oxygen and the heart having to work harder. My symptoms have included shortness of breath or breathlessness at rest, particularly when lying down (I noticed sometimes my lips or other body parts go numb when lying down, I sometimes also have to sit up to catch my breath), racing/pounding heart at rest, occasional chest pressure or tightness, fatigue, sometimes chest pain but nothing severe. I wanted to know what you recommend for me based on my symptoms, the level of physical activity I should engage in, whether or not I should venture into high altitude, and are there any precautionary things that would make a difference if I did? Like an oxygen can or something.
Thank you very much in advance.
