Having Trouble Sleeping, Body Exhausted, On Seroquel Xr. What Else Can I Do?

Hi, For the past three years I ve been having trouble sleeping. I can t get to sleep even though my body is exhausted and I feel so drained and tired. I manage to fall asleep around 12am-1am, then I m up at 7am everyday. I suffer depression , anxiety and I m currently on seroquel xr one tablet in the morning and one at night ( they don t seem to work). My doctor will not prescribe anything stronger as I ve been addicted to prescription drugs in the past. Please what else can I do? I feel like a zombie during the day and I get very emotional and feel like giving up on everything most days. I am a mother of 6 kids and I m forever busy and never get time to think let alone time for myself. Please help

Hello
Welcome to HCM

You have been suffering from depression and anxiety and are currently on Seroquel or qutiapine. The drug itself has some sedation and this should help you in sleeping. If you are not able to sleep properly then it must be either due to your problems of anxiety or due to improper sleep hygiene. Sleep medicines usually work in such condition but they should be taken for short period only and they also cause rebound insomnia so in sensitive persons they should not be prescribed. So we are left with option of improving sleep hygiene.
Try to fix your time to go to bed.
Don't take tea, coffee, alcohol in night.
Avoid watching TV from bed and in night.
Avoid any activity that result in activation of body in evening like reading or heavy exercise.
Warm water bath will also help in sleeping.
Try not to think about sleep again and again.

Try these methods and you will see improvement.
Thanks
