Have Superficial Vein In Foot, Have Edema, Blood Clots, Had Hip Fracture. Taken Aspirin. What Should Be Feared?

I have a superficial vein in my foot that is extremely painful and bulging and red. Yesterday I had some edema on both feet. But today, not so much. I was told that superficial vein blood clots is not a medical emergency and I have a doctor's appointment on Saturaday with my podiatrist. But should I see someone sooner? It is extremely painful. But someone told me not to take Ibuprofen because it can actually cause more blood clot. He told me to take baby aspirin.
I have been sitting for 5 hours at a time without getting up to move my legs because I'm in pain from a hip fracture.
Please advice...thanks...

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on the description of symptoms, I suspect that you could be suffering with superficial thrombophlebitis in your foot.

To reduce discomfort and swelling, support stockings and elevation of the affected extremity is indicated.

A warm compress to the area may also be helpful.

Use of Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs may help in reducing the inflammation and pain.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
