Have Sciatic Nerve Pain Caused By Herniated Disk, Swollen Below The Knee, Sensitive To Touch. Inflamed Nerves?

HI, I M LINDA AND FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW I VE BEEN HAVING SCIATIC NERVE PAIN DOWN MY LEG CAUSED BY A HERNIATED DISK FROM 2001. EVERYTHING WENT AWAY ABIOUT A WEEK AGO EXCEPT THE PAIN IN MY KNEE. IT IS SWOLLEN BELOW THE KNEE AND TO THE SIDE OF THE KNEE. AND SENSITIVE TO TOUCH. IT HURTS WHEN I WALK AND HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WALKING FOR A MONTH NOW. I TRIED HEAT, ICE PACKS, TYLENOL, LEG STRETCHES, SOAKS IN TUB WITH EPSOM SALT, AND GEM STIM. I HAVE PUT HEAT ON IT EVERYDAY FOR A MONTH NOW. THERE IS NO REDNESS OR HOT TO TOUCH ON THE KNEE. THE PAIN WAS IN MY RIGHT LEG BUT NOW IS IN MY LEFT. DO YOU THINK THE NERVES ARE INFLAMMED AND IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO TO RELIEVE THIS PAIN?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The swelling below the knee is likely to be due to inflammatory changes in the knee joint. This can be caused by arthritic changes in the joint.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
