Have Pessary For Pelvic Organ Prolapse, Need To Push For Bowels. Seen Bright Red Blood In Bowels. Should I Worry ?

I am a 65 year old female with three grown children, have pelvic organ prolapse and wear a pessary. About 4 days ago, after pushing very hard to have a bowel movement two or three times, the next time I pooped, I noticed about an eighth of a teaspoon of mucous, no poop, with minute, bright red blood type veins running through it. I checked the fecal matter and there was no sign of blood in it. After that, I stopped pushing so hard and learned how to poop correctly with prolapse. I have no pain, no fever, no vomiting or any discomfort at all and have had no recurrence of the mucus even though I have had several bowel movements. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy in early August. Does it sound like I am ok to wait till then?

Hi thanks for using HCM

As your age is 65 and you have completed your family, better to get hysterectomy with pelvic floor repair done. pessary treatment is recommended only for short duration.
Chances of infection and other complications are more with pessary.
You can get your colonoscopy done according to schedule.
If you get severe pain abdomen, bloated abdomen, constipation need to consult your doctor urgently
I hope I have answered your query, Wish you a good health

Regards
Dr. Vidya
