Hi and welcome to HCM!
Thanks for posting your query here.
Difficulty in passing the stools or painful defecation is called as constipation
. The frequency of passing the stool also matters-once in a day or once in 2-3 days. In most of the cases it is associated with headache. If it is not associated with abdominal pain
it can be taken as without any major problem within in the abdomen-like intestinal obstruction
or volvulus or sigmoid polyps, constipation dominant IBS.
A simple constipation can be treated by using diet changes and with stool softeners. Diet including fibre like vegans, raw vegetables like carrot, low refined food items, less alcohol will improve constipation. Taking excess of fluid will relieve the concentrating mechanism by colon and thereby relieve constipation. Daily exercise and walking will help the GI transit in a proper way. The treatment of constipation depends mainly on the life style changes.
Stool softeners like Cremaffin or duphalac or lactulose
will help in soothing the stools and passing out freely. If fresh blood is associated with stools haemorrhoids should be ruled out.
Hope this is helpful to you.
