Have Been Operated For A Fracture At The Neck Of The Femur. Diagnosed With PTE. Was On Heparin And Acitrom. Any Other Precautions?

Hi,

My mother age 73 was operated for a fracture at the neck of the femur and after post surgical observation she was diagnosed with PTE and was administered heparin and was kept under observation for couple of days and discharged . The doctor had advised a CT angio for her and we got it done i was told that the clot had reduced considerably and she has been advised to take acitrom 2 mg for 3 months duration she is also being given paracetamol 1 gm for pain relief. My question is what precautions are to be taken to continue a risk free lifestyle

Hi,
Your mother had fracture neck of femur following which she developed fat embolism to pulmonary artery leading to pulmonary embolism

She needs to continue acitrom 2 mg daily , and get checked her prothrombin time every twice weekly ,adjust doses after consulting your doctor ,to keep PT INR range of 2-3 for next 6 months

If she has any bleeding tendency to report your doctor and stop medicine.

Avoid green leafy vegetables, cabbages while she is on acitrom

She should take plenty of fluids.

Hope this will help you
