Have Bad Cough, Flu And Fever, Soreness In Throat, Have Muscle Ache. What Is Going On?

I've had a very bad cough for the last two weeks, every five or so minutes i would break out into a major coughing fit, this came after I had a flu and fever, so I just thought it was part of that. my flu ended last week but the cough lingered. now i only cough in my sleep and when i wake up but it hurts and its very phlegmy. the problem though is my throat feels so sore all the time, it hurts to swallow it feels like when i swallow a little ping pong ball is moving around. its not a 'sore' throat, but it feels like ive been punched there hard, like that kind of sore. like muscle ache kind of sore. what is that?

Hello dear...

The symptoms mentioned in your post suggests that you might be having Pharyngitis.
The coughing bouts can be attributed to constant irritation of the respiratory tract.

Management consists of:
1. Gargle with warm salt water to relieve throat pain.
2. Analgesics like paracetamol
3. Antibiotics depending upon culture & sensitivity reports to remove the causative organism
4. Antihistamine preparations can also be used to provide symptomatic relief.
5. Anti tussive preparation to provide relief from coughing fits.

If symptoms still persist...it will be better to consult an ENT specialist.
There is no need to worry...you will be perfectly fine.
Meanwhile...avoid taking cold food & drinks, maintain adequate hydration & take soft, non-spicy foods.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thanks & take care.
