Have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Taking Synthroid. Bloodwork Shows High Antibodies. Third Opinion?

Hello,
I was diagnozed with Hashimotos Thyroiditis by an Endicronologist. I have normal thyroid, but high antibodies. I have been taking Synthroid since November. When I went to my yearly physical, my General Practioner was very annoyed I was taking Synthroid for a normal thyroid. He said we treat thryroid not antibodies. He claims my bloodwork always came up normal for my thyroid. Should I seek a third opinion?

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
After going through your details, you have thyroid antibodies but normal thyroid functions.
Your requirement of supplements of thyroxine certainly depends on your Thyroid functions specially TSH level and clinical findings.
Even if blood work is normal still you need to monitor your TSH level as subclinical hypothyroid develops.
Do you need supplementation or not you can discuss with your Endocrinologist and follow the instructions. You can always take second opinion.
There are formulation with very little dose to titrate according to need of patients.
Hope this Helps.
Take care.
Good Luck.
