Has Webbed Neck Due To Turner Syndrome. Unable To Keep The Area Infection Free. How To Treat It?

Hi, I'm a pediatric nurse practitioner. I work with plastic surgeons, and we recently saw a delightful young lady, age 19 years, with Turner Syndrome. The webbing on her neck has caused a lot of intertrigo and she's been followed by a dermatologist, but they have exhausted their efforts in keeping these areas rash/infection free. We are considering z-plasty to give her some relief. As she is finished growing, we're not concerned with this causing future adhesions and/or decreased mobility, but we are wondering if anyone else is familiar with treatment of these surgically. I found an abstract from 2002 by Hikade, et al but don't know how to reach them. Does anyone have any suggestions, or know a practice that treats this? Thanks!

Hi,

Its really great to see your concern towards the young lady with turner syndrome and intertrigo. Intertrigo in these cases should be managed by simple hygiene measures. For the betterment kindly follow the suggestions below:

1. Avoid direct sunlight and hot – humid climate.

2. Wear cotton clothes and avoid synthetic clothes.

3. Stay in cool environment(preferably AC) and avoid sweating.

4. Take two time bath once in morning and at night time which will soothe your skin and prevent the aggravation of the problem

5. Do not Pinch pop or squeeze or rub any area.

6. Do not use any deodorants or any cosmetics over and near the affected area.

7. Do cold compression over the affected area. Take a wet towel soaked in cold water and apply it for 5-10 minutes for 3-4 times a day.

Along with surgery these measures are quite important to maintain good skin condition.

All the best.
