Has Asymmetrical Uvula. Severe Chest Pain Causing Difficulty To Breath. Cause?

My 14 yr old daughter has an asymmetrical uvula that causes her to feel the need to yawn to get air. We were in the ER last night due to the severe chest pain it caused from trying so hard to breath. They ruled out anything life threatening like blood clots, etc. he wants us to take her to an ENT soon. Could having her tonsils/adenoids removed 5 yrs ago have caused this?

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

After reading your complaints I came to knew that your daughter has asymetrical uvula had suddenly developed chest pain and difficulty in breathing. As you said that your daughter had already operated for tonsils and adenoids about 5 years back.

According to medical history of your daughter is having asymetrical uvula may be as a postoperative complication or may be due to palatal paresis as sometimes seen in viral infections. Chest pain and difficulty in breathing may be due to chest infection like pneumonitis.

To confirm it and to manage it you should do-

1- X-Ray chest.

2- Blood- CBC, blood sugar (P & PP).

3- Culture & sensitivity of throat swab.

By the inferences of above investigations and clinical examination one may reach to final diagnosis.

Regards.
