Had Pierced Child's Ear. Now Ear Is Swollen. It Is Bit Purple, Green, Yellow Puss. No Fever. Has Sore Throat, Runny Nose. Medical Cure For This?
My daughter is three years old and has had her ears pierced for eight months. Today she complained that her earring was bothering her, so we took it out and found that her ear lobe is extremely swollen, a bit purple, and has green/yellow/white puss coming out of it. She has had a cold, could the virus from the cold somehow spread to her earring? She does not have a fever, but has been complaining of a sore throat and runny nose.

She seems to have developed infection of the prick site and the pus is coming because of that. The infection will be bacterial most likely and certainly not viral. The other cause can be a hypersensitivity to the material from which that ear ring is made of and then a super added bacterial infection has occurred. Please clean that area with a boiled cotton and then dry it, apply an antibiotic ointment/cream over it and give some analgesics. In case the problem does not go, see an ENT. Regards
