Had Myringloplasty To Blocked Small Perforation Using Cartilage. Tinnitus Present, Hearing Went Down. Any Improvement Possible?
I had a myringloplasty to blocked a very small perforation using cartilage April 3, followed by tinnitus for 10 days that disappeared.
Then 2 months later the tinnitus reappeared and few week after a crack by the transplant. As of now, the transplant is supposed to be gone, my hearing went down to - 50, the tinnitus present, and a larger whole on the eardrum. It's now a total of 5 month and half.
Some doctors recommend to wait and see. But what is to be seen, not to do another surgery before 6 to 1 year. What do you think, any improvements are still possible? I'm in despair. Thanks for your answer

Hi,
I am sorry that the graft to repair your eardrum did not take up and you have a residual hearing loss. Since the hearing loss is significant and the hole is large, it seems very unlikely that the drum is going to heal on its own. Moreover it is 3.5 months since the eardrum perforation was noticed, if healing had to occur it would have healed by now. Sorry to say, but you do need further examination, audiological testing and most likely a revision surgery.
