Hiatus hernia is a surgical condition and if detected 20 years ago, it needs re assessment if there is pain in the area. Please avoid bending and lifting heavy weights. A X ray of your chest will tell the position of the hiatus hernia and this needs to be discussed with a gastroenterologist and if necessary a thoracic surgeon. Though most forms of hiatus hernia are mild and patients need to be kept under observation, any heavy physical activity or bending down must be avoided.
Hope this helps
