Had A Varicose Vein Inside Calf And Protruding Sometimes. Lump Disappears But Still Red. What Is Wrong?

I have had a varicose vein on the inside of my calf since of was very young never bothered me.. I don t like how it looks. Sometimes it protrudes. Now I have a small red lump that hurts when I touch it. After a long day on my feet the red lump disappears but the whole area around the vein is red and hard around it. But when I rest the lump becomes small again. What is wrong?

Hi.Thanks for writing on HCM.
This is due to phlebitis (inflammation of the vein) or due to formation of clot(superficial thrombosis) and might need simple analgesic (only symptomatic).Consult a surgeon and plan for the operation if avoid complication like venous ulcer, itching etc.Hope this helps.Take care
