Growth In The Ear. Mastoidectomy Suggested. Any Other Option?

Hie,

may you please assist me, i have a growth in my right ear and was told to have mastoidectomy surgery, however am failing to raise the cash needed for this operation. Isn't there any other way of having the growth dissapear besides an operation say tablets or something else. Am fearing for the worst now as the growth is nw protruding outside my ear.

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic

Surgery is aimed at correcting a defect or removing that which is not needed and when indicated it implies there is a defect or an abnormality that has to be removed and of which drugs will not help.

It is important to understand that surgery can have a lot of complications and when ever there is a medical way of treating with drugs, it will always be the preferred if the success is similar to surgery.

Well, given your financial limitation, you might consider to discuss with your doctor
or consider a different hospital where the fee could be lower.
Best regard and hope this helps you.

ENT Specialist Dr. Sreenivasan Narayana's  Response
Hi,

Your description and the subsequent recommendation of mastoidectomy by the surgeon suggests that you may have had chronic middle ear infection with aural polyp protruding into your external ear. There are other conditions of the external ear and middle ear leading to visible growth in the ear; but I am assuming the above condition as it is one of the most common.

The disease could have damaged your middle ear and also mastoid air cells. The presence of various important structures near your middle ear cavity makes it important to ensure that the disease is removed both from the middle ear and mastiod cavity so that you will not have to face any serious situations later. Unfortunately, it cannot be made to disappear with tablets, like you are hoping.

I do not know how it works in your country, but do try to visit other doctors who can probably do the surgery at a lesser price.

Regards,
Sreenivasan
