Fasting Blood sugar of 6.4 mmol/dl(115 mg/dl) is diagnostic of Pre diabetes. Overweight and high blood pressure also puts you in a high risk to develop diabetes. So I would go with the advise of your doctor to start on metformin. I will not cause your face to go numb. Your blood pressure is controlled quite well.
