Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

The fact that you are able to run excludes a fracture in your case.

Recurring pain in the knee following an injury could be due to
* meniscal injury - swelling of the knee may be present
* injury to the cruciate ligaments - Hemarthrosis occurs (blood in the knee)
* strain on the collateral ligaments - swelling may be absent. pain on movement of the joint will be present

So, to diagnose all the above mentioned problems, MRI scan is essential.

Consult an orthopedic surgeon and follow his advice accordingly.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
From description it seems to be muscle or ligament strain over knee.
I suggest you consult an orthopaedician for clinical examination. Meanwhile
. Elevate the limb
. Rest to the injured part and do not involve in activities which puts additional strain on the injured tissues.
. Ice packing should be applied for about 20 minutes once in every 2 hours.
. Use elastic compression bandage around the swollen area
Hope this will helps you. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.
Regards.
Dr Saurabh Gupta.
