Hi
The only option for both the age groups(5 and 61/2 yrs) is constant wearing of power glasses as continuous retinal stimulus is needed to achieve and maintain good vision in both eyes and to prevent Amblyopia( lazy eyes) in future. Donot hesitate to encourage them wearing glasses.
Until they turn to an appropriate age to handle
Contact lens, it is better
-to continue glasses with
- a yearly checkup and
-a dilated retinal examination each visit (as their peripheral nervous layers are usually thin ,stretched and weak).
There are multiple procedures to correct this
refractive error after the age of approximately 18 yrs/ preferably when their power stabilizes (for at least a period of 6 mths) like
-LASIK and other refractive surgeries( if their
cornea has sufficient thickness)
-ICL(implantable contact lens) if their cornea does not have sufficient thickness.
And who knows by the time they are in their twenties( 15-20 yrs ) from now, some newer procedures would have emerged for such power corrections.
For all this to go smoothly in future, tell them to wear glasses throughout the day and a yearly review with your ophthalmologist should be fine.
So don't worry and give them a nutritious diet which includes greens, carrots, sweet potato, fish and Mushrooms too.take care.
