Exposure To Shingles While Pregnant. Never Had Chicken Pox. Worry?

Hello, thank you very much for allowng me to consult with you. My enquiry is regarding exposure to shingles while preganant. I m 6 weeks pregnant and I visited a friend last Thursday night. I was supposed to go to the movies with her yerterday but I was feeling very fatigued so I cancelled. I spoke with her this morning and she tells me she s on her way to the walk in clinic because she has a rask like postules to bilateral flank sided of her body, it itches very much and it hurts. I m concerned about exposure, although she was not symptomatic when I saw her. I never had chicken pox and I was tested twice mre than a decade ago as I was exposed to 2 pts who had developed shingles at the hospital I work for; I was told that I had the antibodies either through prior exposure or inmunity. What s your opinion? Thank you in advance. Patricia

Hello Patricia,
Thank you for posting your query through Healthcare magic.
First of all just relax and try to be cool. Your getting anxious and panicky itself can cause your immunity to go down and can make you sick and thus your baby also may suffer.
There are several positive things for you to be happy. So far your pregnancy is going smooth. Going to company with your friends is positive and will add happiness in you. You know that you have antibodies in your body to fight the shingles. Even though you tested 10 years back, it is almost like contracting the disease and you will be immune for the rest of life.
I have to warn about the negative tendencies in you. You are unnecessarily anxious and go panicky. You have not even got the diagnosis of shingles in your friend. You said they are pustules in both her flanks. Shingles usually occur mono laterally and are not appearing as pustules to start with but they come as vesicles in the beginning. You made imaginative stories : Your friend has shingles, it is a chicken pox family virus, you get chicken pox, your baby gets affected and you get a deformed baby ... the story goes like that.
How sad it is to understand that you are worried about a situation where YOU, an otherwise healthy lady of 50- 60 Kg body weight, I imagine, was attacked by one or few virus, not even weighing a microgram weight altogether, that were waiting in your friends room to attack you, passed from the body of your friend, and that too from under her clothes, came directly like the weird computer creatures of Hollywood cinema, attacked you last night through the air you breathed in her room. Your nasal mucus membrane, your protective lung tissue etc were penetrated by these fierce and more powerful creatures and they went through millions and millions of antibodies in the body unaffected especially in your blood and reached the healthy baby in your uterus making it deformed. I imagine flushes of shame on your face for imagining such foolish stories.
Are you a believer or not? Just imagine the process of love making, sex, conception, growth of a beautiful human cutie in your womb. It all happens as programmed and you have to hope for the best for you.
Virus and viral causes of diseases are still a myth for many medical people in the world including me. I believe in the power of mind and I believe in the fact that nothing from outside can make you sick unconditionally. This only condition is your mind, the pilot that takes YOU to your destination.
You have two options. Know more about virus and viral infections. Read more about natural health. I can imagine your personal limitation because you are working in a hospital of conventional medicine. But there are so many people in the world who keep good health with alternative methods like Homoeopathy. Homoeopathy is the second largest medical system in the world. It is very new and so less popular. Knowledge is strength.
The second option is: you can start worrying and make your health and that of your baby worse every day.
Hope I have give some new food for your thoughts. I cannot answer otherwise.
With Best Wishes,
