Experiencing Vaginal Discharge Due To Enlarged Uterus

I am 51, had no children. Have skipped periods for about 3 months in a row about 4 times but periods returned to be monthly. Am now experiencing constant vaginal discharge, that is yellowish with a foul odor, almost like a period without blood. Bleeding has stopped for days and then starts again. Have cramping on left side of uterus. Had an exam and Dr. said I have an enlarged uterus. I have not had sex for 8 months. Problem started about 3 months ago. Had a pap test and test for std s 6 months ago and everthing came back normal. Dr. wants me to have a vaginal ultrasound.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Enlarged uterus as such is not a cause for genital discharge. Vaginal ultra sound examination would help to fix the reason for the enlarged uterus. If there is a tumor and secondary infection then you might likely be to get genital discharge. Otherwise vaginitis of any cause can cause discharge, If you are a diabetic it would aggravate some infections like yeast and cause discharge. As you mentioned it is foul smelling,Yeast discharge would not be a possibility. Secondary infection, bacterial vaginosis and a Trichomonas Vaginalis infection are some reasons to cause a odorous discharge. Dr S.Murugan
