Hi, If this is her first pregnancy, she may be a little unaware of the early symptoms of true labor, but here are a few hints; there is excess bowel and bladder activity as there is increased prostaglandin release prior to the onset of labor; there is excessive vaginal discharge and sometimes watery leakage if the membranes rupture early and sometimes blood streaked (show) as the cervix begins to efface and dilate; this is accompanied by the pain radiating to the back and the thighs along with increased tightening of the abdomen. As the baby's presenting part descends down, there is decreased perception of fetal movements and increased pelvic congestion. You may ask her to see her doctor every week for an assessment and to report if any of the above mentioned symptoms appear to get immediate care. Hope your query is answered. Take care.
