Epileptic Attack At The Start Of Menstruation, EEG Reports Normal, Pain In The Liver. Any Suggestions?
Sir my sis is 18 yrs old nd she suffrs from epilepsy for2yrs. Her EEG reports are normal as per by a neurologist but after medictation she didnt get seizure for 1nd half years nd in between she missed her doses. She got epileptic attack generally in starting of menstruation . And now i think this has an adverse effect on her liver as she complain pain on that side. Plese suggest us what to do?
Your sister is most likely suffering from catamenial epilepsy- where the person has fits only during menstrual periods. The underlying cause is supposed to be linked to hormonal effects.
In this condition, anti-epileptic medications are required to prevent the recurrence of seizures. Most doctors would advise the use of medications during the periods (to start a few days before period starts and stop it after the bleeding stops)- about 10 days per month.
The pain in the liver area is not due to epilepsy, it needs evaluation by a doctor.
