Entire Colon Removed. Reconnected To Rectum. Taking Medicines For Seepage. Passes Very Frequent Loose Stools, Burns A Lot. Suggestions?
My dad is 86 years old. He had his entire colon removed last December. No bag, were able to reconnect to his rectum. However, he seldom ever has a solid stool. He takes eight Imodium per day plus an OTC med to try to control the seepage. However, he sometimes has to go as many. 25 times per day. He can control it by sitting down because when he goes to bed he immediately has to get back up. They have tried liquid codeine but he cannot tolerate it. He only takes one blood pressure med per day and one med for neuropathy. That is all of his prescribed meds. He is so frustrated and the liquid seepage is so bad it burns him so bad.
hello dear it is actually short gut syndrome. he should have fibrous diet, take more fluids to replace loss. Probiotics should be tried like Enflore sachets. Morphine can also be helpful but should be started after consult of your doctor. regards
