Earwax Buildup In Ears. Blockage Removed By Applying Softening Agent, Flushing Warm Water, Hydrogen Peroxide, Contained Blood. Why?

Hi - I recently experienced earwax buildup in both ears. After applying a softening agent (carbamide peroxide 6.5%) for a day or two, I tried flushing with a warm water and hydrogen peroxide solution. This successfully removed the blockage from my left ear, but was only marginally effective in the right ear and the flush here also contained blood. What, if any, concern should I have about this?

hello and welcome to Health care magic,

I have understood your problem and it is most likely that while cleaning you might have injured either the canal or the drum which would also explain why your hearing has not improved in the said ear.

You need to get your hearing and drum examined by an ENT and also do not take head bath. Keep you ears dry and clean and do not put any liquid inside the ear.

If the drum has got injured you may be asked to take a course of antihistamine and antibiotic and wait for a month or so for it to heal spontaneously which in most of the cases it will. If not then get back to me or any ENT

Get well soon and in future do not try to clean the ears yourself

regards

Dr Sriram Nathan
