Dragging Feeling In Upper Abdomen, Gaining Weight. Going Through Pre Menopause, Under Active Thyroid. Any Ideas?

I have a dragging feeling across my upper abdomen which can be annoying. I have put on a lot of weight lately, most of it in the abdomen. I am 55, going through the peri-menopause and also have an underactive thyroid. The dragging sensation usually occurs after I've done some physical activity like hoovering or brushing or lifting.

Hi and thanks for this query.

Is your underactive thyroid being managed appropriately? This is because an underactive thyroid is one of the main reasons for weight gain. So if it is not managed, please get it addressed. if you are already receiving drugs, you should check with your doctor to make sure you are receiving the appropriate doses and they are working good for you.

Also, get a complete physical exam to identify any subtle abnormalities that may be going on. This would provide an insight as to what test to ask for to investigate possible cause of this dull abdominal pain. If nothing is found, the it could represent irritable bowel syndrome.

For now, get consulted. Check your thyroid medications or start treatment if you are not already doing so. Investigations depend on the initial findings.

I wish you well.
