Done Ultrasound. What Does The Finding Mean?

New Onset Fatty Live @ Age 54 Male

Hiya Doc!

I am a healthy active 54-yr old man. I had an ultrasound today (to rule out a herniated upper abdominal muscle tear of last week) that indicated a "mild" fatty liver of "around 200" vs. a "150" within normal limits.

What does this mean? My body fat is low, I can box 4 - 5 rounds with a trainer, but have cranky knees (bilateral menisectomies back in my 20's). I've been on a low fat-high protein diet for a decade now; drink only vodka, but daily x 3 - 4 after work, before bed.

I've already elected to reduce both the frequency and volume of alcohol; perhaps increase lentils or some other dietary change???

Thx!

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

According to your USG reports,
You have mild fatty liver and it is due to deposition of fat within the liver cells which causes bright echo texture of liver.
Severe and prolong deposition of fat may lead to cirrhosis and it may convert into carcinoma in some cases.
It is reversible condition and it can be reversed by diet modification, medicines and increasing physical activity.
Get well soon.

Take Care
