Done Hysterectomy. Have Pain In Hip. MRI Shows Ovarian Cyst. Will I Need Surgery?

I am a 42 year old who had a hysterectomy almost two years ago...I have had cysts on my ovaries in the past, one which burst. I have been having pain in my left hip, so I had an MRI done. There were no findings on my hip; however, they did see a 5cm cyst on my right ovary. Is this dangerous, will I need surgery? When I had the hysterectomy I asked the doctor to please remove my ovaries for fear of this reason.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

Doctors avoid the removal of the ovaries as the ovaries help in production of natural sex hormones which help to maintain various functions in the female body. Any amount of artificial hormone supplements cannot match upto this.

As for the cyst, it seems to have grown and may have to be watched. To answer your question honestly, there is a chance this might require surgery in the future.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
