Hi , I am 49 yrs .Mu mum just passed away last week of MCrc . as her daughter , I went and Did a CT of the chest , abdomen and pelvis. CT shows the uterus is enlarged and measures 11.5*8.8*6.5 cms in size . Multiple focal lessions are seen in the myometrium, few of which indent the endometrial echo, suggestive of fibriods.I have a Mirena inserted in Feb 2012. It also shows bilateral small ovarian cysts of 2.5*2.5 cms on rt side and 3.5*3.4 on left side.No solid enhancing lessions is seen within them. Please advise course of action

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Fibroids are benign tumors of the uterus arising from the myometrium.
Treatment is more often surgical removal.
Ovarian cyst small and asymptomatic in nature just needs periodic monitoring to check whether the size increased and undergoes any changes.
Consult your Gynecologist.

Radiologist Dr. Vivek Chail's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I am sorry to hear that you lost your mother last week and she was fighting ?metastatic colorectal cancer (MCRC).

Getting investigated by CT scan was a good thing. First, your reports show multiple fibroids and your uterus size is also bulky. If your family is complete and you are postmenopausal, there is very little role for the uterus and ovaries. This, however must be discussed with your gynecologist with regards to your suitability for surgery.

Dealing with the colorectal cancer, I would suggest that you also get a colonoscopy done. It is an office procedure and almost painless. Any suspicious findings will be known. This would complete screening for any colorectal problems in you. You must also explain to your doctor regarding any sudden alteration in bowel habits like constipation and diarrhea.

Hope this helps.
