Does Usage Of Ofloxacin Ophthalmic Help In Treating Ear Infection?

I have encountered a sever ear infection. The attending doctor prescribed ofloxacin ophthalmic that is used for treating the eyes. Does this medication also include treating an ear infection? I say this because it has been couple of days since the administration and I am still encountering itching and a slight sever ear ache.

Hello,

Mostly ophthalmic solutions are also used for ent and vice versa in the majority of cases.

As it is an antibiotic ophthalmic solution you are referring to, yes it is alright for usage in the ear also. An anti-inflammatory solution, in addition, would have brought your ear pain and itching down. You can ask for it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
