Does Usage Of Methylprednisolone Aceponate Cream Help In Treating Foot Fungal Infection?

Hello, my name is Kim. I have a foot fungal infectuon and my foot became very swollen/inflammed. She prescribed the methylprednisolone 4mg dospak 21 s medication. After reading the background information it said those with infections shouldn t take this medication. She knew I had a. Foot fungal infection. The inflammation did go down. I m concerned that the infection will reverse and come back according to the claims made in this information section of the medication. Just wanted to know if this is accurate and if so should I stop taking the medication?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Foot fungal infection is a very resistant form of fungal infection. Using methylprednisolone alone will aggravate your condition. Methylprednisolone is a steroid. Steroid is used for treatment of fungal infection to relieve inflammation & itching but it is used only in combination with anti – fungal agent like clotrimazole. Also, a topical antibiotic is added in combination to prevent and treat bacterial infection.
Advice
1.     Stop using methylprednisolone cream
2.     Apply antifungal cream containing clotrimazole, steroid and antibiotic such as Lobate GM cream thrice daily
3.     Tablet Fluconazole 150 mg twice weekly for 2 months
4.     Avoid sharing clothing, towels, or bed sheets
5.     Wash clothes in hot water with fungicidal soap
6.     Do not scratch to much
7.     Take high protein diet such as eggs and cheese to boost immunity
8.     Investigation – blood sugar (fasting & postprandial)
9.     Consult a dermatologist if you are not getting relief from these measures
Thanks!!
