Does The Removal Of Submaxillary Gland Lead To Less Saliva Production?

I had my left submaxillary gland removed in 1982, the nerve ending attached to a sweat gland, so when I get the signal to salivate my throat starts sweating. Now I am having a little bit of pain and swelling on the same left side a little above the surgery scar and it seems like I am producing less saliva in that area. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
The swelling over the previous surgical site can be a recurrence of the lesion. The salivary secretion will be less on surgical removal of the gland. Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get it evaluated. Mean while for the reduced salivary secretion, you can use artificial salivary substitutes like carboxy methyl cellulose. Keep sipping water.
I hope i have answered your query. Take care.
