Does Taking Lisinopril For High BP Causes Kidney Dis-functioning?

Dr. gave me lisinopril for high blood pressure 40Mg twice a day. After a month or so my eyes and skin turned yellow. I called the doctor and he sent me to have blood work done and a day or so later his nurse called and gave instructions to stop a lot of verges that I ate on a regular basis. He sent me to a kidney doctor who said that my kidneys were damaged. He said that lisinprol could kill me if I stayed on this medication. I asked my doctor about this and he screamed at me saying he was the doctor and he was following medical procedures.Am I correct to think that he gave me the wrong medication?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It depends on the situation, but typically lisinopril is a good medication for high blood pressure, and can also help protect the kidneys as well. However, if you take too much of it, or if you become dehydrated while on it, you can damage your kidneys. The dose you stated (40mg twice a day) is higher than would be recommended for lisinopril, usually, the maximum dose I would give is 40mg once a day, so I suspect it may have been too high of a dose. I would suggest following the kidney doctor's recommendations to make sure you do not damage your kidneys any more.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
