Does Smoking Marijuana Cause Shortness Of Breath And Elevated Heart Rate?

Hello, I'm 50 years old, 6 feet, 200 lbs in good general health, non-tobacco smoker. I have developed a DVT behind my knee. I experienced shortness of breath and elevated heart rate for weeks before diagnosis. I have no risk factors for DVT. I'm fairly active and move around a lot. I smoke marijuana regularly. Is there a connection?

Hi,

Marijuana is known to cause death due to stroke by causing stenosis of blood vessels in the brain. It is possible that it may have contributed to your deep vein thrombosis by the same mechanism. Shortness of breath and elevated heart rate can both be due to marijuana.

Best wishes.
