Does Reducing The Dosage Of Thyroid Medicine Harm The Baby?
hi my name is Bhavini and have hyper thyroid, have been doing thyroid tests every 3 months now since am expecting.i am 38 weeks pregnant weigh 83 Kgs and am 5 feet tall.i was taking 100 mg and was asked to reduce it to 75mg and now i am taking 50mg.how will that affect my baby?
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM! I read carefully your concern. The dose of the levothyroxine must be monitored very closely during pregnancy because it may have side effect in the baby development and the outcome of pregnancy. We can not say that the reduction of the dose that you have done is good or not. It must be done regarding to the result of the hormonal level. In pregnancy the thyroid hormonal ranges are different and to have a proper answer please attach the result of the hormones you have done until now. Wishing you good health and hope to hear from you soon.
Kind regards, Dr.Mirjeta
