Hi,

Fever, headaches, and body pain are known side effects of the rabies vaccine, although they are typically mild and should resolve within a few days. If your symptoms persist or worsen, it's important to speak with your healthcare provider.

As for the number of vaccines needed for suspected rabies exposure, the exact number and timing of doses will depend on several factors, such as the type of exposure and the individual's immune status. In the United States, the standard protocol for post-exposure prophylaxis involves a series of four vaccinations over 14 days. However, your healthcare provider will be able to determine the appropriate course of treatment based on your specific situation and exposure risk.

It's not recommended to stop the vaccination course without consulting your healthcare provider, as this may leave you at risk of developing rabies. If you have concerns about the necessity of the fifth dose, it's best to discuss this with your healthcare provider, who can provide you with guidance based on your circumstances.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
