Does Piece Of Plastic In Throat Cause Loss Of Voice?

I lost my voice 5 weeks ago. It came on really suddenly. I coughed up a small piece of plastic after throwing up today. My throat feels better already even though my voice is still gone. Could this small piece of plastic have caused me to lose my voice.

Hello,
Thanks for your query.
Loss of voice is due to vocal cord swelling, very unlikely a piece of plastic damaging vocal cords which are over the windpipe. Even though I doubt, that piece of plastic would have been swallowed along with some food item. It would have come from your stomach through the food pipe.
if I were your treating doctor I would have immediately done a laryngosocpy to see the vocal cords. Most probably there will be vocal nodules. Please give voice rest and take steam inhalations.
Start on omeprazole 20mg twice daily, till you see an ENT specialist.

Wishing you a good recovery
