Does Persisting Swelling In Lymph Node Need Ultrasound Scan?

My son is 19 years old and a few months ago was diagnosed with impetigo.I sent my son to the gp who prescribed antibiotics. My concern is at the time of infection he had a swollen gland below the earlobe that did go down after a few weeks but its now swollen/tender again. My son was prescribed a high dose of antibiotics at the time but had to reduce the dose because he felt unwell. My gp at the time stated if the gland didn't go down within 2 weeks he would send him for a scan.Do you think a scan is neccessary now or just some routine bloods.Or shall I monitor the gland to see if it returns to the normal size again.

Welcome to health care magic.

1.The history suggest previous skin infection with lymph nodal enlargement and not responding on antibiotics.
2.Yes in this case ultrasound is beneficial in further evaluation.
3.Ultrasound will help to evaluate the nature of the lumps its source and extensions.
4.An FNAC - fine needle aspiration cytology will help to evaluate the nature of the cells involved.
5.Lymph nodal enlargement is seen in localised or systemic infection / inflammation, or lymph nodal pathology itself.
6.Sugget get the scan done for better line of treatment. Good luck.

Hope i have answered your query.
