Does Medication Cause Odor In Nostrils And An Unpleasant Taste In Mouth?

Hi, I started taking Diovan this summer after having an ICD implant. There is a strong odor in my nostrils that affects my taste and it is generally unpleasant. I'm sure it is the Diovan although I am on many other meds (unfortunately). Any thoughts? Thanks, Jerry

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain Diovan [Valsartan] can cause an altered smell in nose but it is not a very frequent side effect that is seen in individuals taken Diovan..
This can be due to side effect of any other drug that you might be taking while many other diseases can also lead to symptoms o foul smell from nose like Upper respiratory tract infection, sinusitis, nasal infection etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and nasal endoscopy can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
As of now you can do steam inhalations..
Saline nasal irrigations can help..
Maintain a good oral hygiene as the smell originating from mouth also can cause bad smell....
Chew flavoured sugarfree chewing gums as it helps in refreshing breath as well as taste

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
