Does Intake Of Metformin Help In Treating Type 2 Diabetes?

Is metformin really that good for you? I have had type 2 diabetes 20+ years and am now on Metformin. When I first started taking it I had sever gastric pains and was unable to eat much. I lost 20 lbs in 3 weeks. Needed to, but not much more than that. I was just hospitalized for gastric bleeding (varices) and had a repair procedure done using glue. I was transfused 2 pints of blood and 1 unit of platelets and am now home recovering. I wonder if metformin played a role in this or was it just coincidence.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Metformin can cause gastritis and you can take antacids like Pantoprazole or Omeprazole to control gastric irritation. If you can’t tolerate Metformin you can switch to other drugs or insulin.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
