Does Headaches Cause Increase In BP?

my blood pressure is 154/104. I've had a bad headache for 2 days (gets better, gets worse again). I am in a tremendous amount of pain. I have chronic back pain - I usually take a combo of fentanyl patches and 30 mg oxycodone for pain. Out of oxycodone until tomorrow morning. Is it likely that the pain is causing my bp to rise and am I safe to stay home and rest until tomorrow - or should I go to the ER? (not overwieght - had some high bp back in 2012 - took bp med for a couple of months - bp got better so I quit taking medicine for it.)

Hello
You are taking fentanyl & oxycodone for "chronic back ache" .
Now there is a headache but from last 2 days and also out of oxycodone ( this may provoke pain in head).
I want to tell you that usually headache don't elevate blood pressure , rather elevated blood pressure produces headache particularly in the occipital region ( back of head) .
In your case at present your B P is 154/ 104 mm of Hg .
Both systolic ( upper one ) and diastolic ( lower one ) are sufficient to cause headache .
This type of high BLOOD PRESSURE is a cause of concern ( particularly you were also a patient of high blood pressure in last year 2012 ) , so recommend you get in E K G & echo & consult a " CARDIOLOGIST " and sort this problem at earliest.
Hope this will help you.
