Does Grafting Procedure Help To Restore Hearing?

Hi: My father had infection in the ear and have hole in the ear drum. His doctor suggests grafting procedure rather than surgery because risks associated with general anesthesia as my father had heart attack and is under medication. My question is is the grating will help to restore hearing or do he has to wear any hearing aids? Which way you suggest.
thanks

Hi, thanks for your query.
In my opinion, first the eardrum hole has to be closed either by grafting or by surgery.
If your father has risk for surgery under general anesthesia, he can get it done under local anesthesia. This will minimize the surgical risk.
Grafting is successful surgery. It will restore the hearing loss caused because of ear drum hole.
He may not need hearing aid now, but may need it later if his hearing deteriorate s.
Hope my answers have helped you. Thanks......
