Does Braces On Teeth Cause Swelling On Gums?

my daughter got braces on her top teeth today. We expected them to be soar. However I didn't look super close to all her teeth until tonight. I see her furthest back brace is really close to her gum, and actually looks like its on her gum. I assume it looks like it's on the gum because it's close and the gum is now swollen. Did the orth make a mistake putting the brace so close to the gum?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain as if the braces are placed on the gums then the gums will tend to get inflamed and swollen due to pressure and trauma implicated over the soft tissues of gums by the braces..
Ideally the braces are placed on the centre of the tooth and of they are over the gums, you should get back to your Orthodontist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation should be done..
Correct placement of the braces should be done for proper pressure application and movement of teeth in right direction..
As of now do cool compresses on her gums and if there is pain you can give Ibuprofen..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
