Does Appendix Removal Cause Weight Gain?

I had my appendix removed about 13 months ago. Since then, I have gained 25-30 pounds and have not been able to lose it. Also I have had periords of diarrhea lasting ever since the surgery. Is there a link to the appendix removal and these stmptoms/signs?

Hi,
I understand your query.
Actually appendix has role in digestion, storage of healthy bacterias which help in health maintenance by enforcing body resistance & vitamin production./ obstructing growth of bad bacterias in gut.
After appendectomy all these benefits are lost, so it is unlikely the causative factor for weight gain.
- Your repeated diarrhea can be attributed to appendectomy.Replacement of lactobacilli ( sporlac granules) would help after the treatment of bowel infection.
- Wait gain may be due to psychological excessive eating spurts- due to relief of pain of inflamed appendix, which can be reduced only after a prolonged dieting/exercises with +ve psychology.
Thanks.
